Original job description
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to bring formal systems engineering expertise and best practices into a growing product development organization. The ideal candidate is a true systems engineering professional with a strong foundation in requirements development, decomposition, verification, validation, and requirements traceability. The client is looking for someone who understands how to translate customer and business needs into structured system requirements and ensures those requirements flow through every level of product development.
In this role, you'll serve as the owner and champion of systems engineering processes, working across cross-functional teams and global OEM partners to ensure products are engineered with rigor, consistency, and clear technical requirements from concept through launch.
What You'll Do:
- Lead system-level requirements development for new product initiatives
- Translate high-level market and business needs into detailed technical specifications and subsystem requirements
- Define and manage requirements across multiple product tiers, including entry-level, mid-range, and premium products
- Establish and maintain requirements traceability throughout the product lifecycle
- Review product architectures, designs, verification plans, and validation results to ensure alignment with requirements
- Partner with mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, quality, and manufacturing teams to ensure system-level integration
- Act as the internal subject matter expert on systems engineering methodology and best practices
- Drive a disciplined approach to requirements management, change control, verification, and validation
- Collaborate with OEM partners to ensure technical requirements are clearly defined, understood, and executed
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
- 5+ years of dedicated systems engineering experience within a product development environment
- Strong expertise in requirements engineering, including requirements decomposition, allocation, verification, and validation
- Experience managing complex systems requirements from concept-level definitions through detailed subsystem specifications
- Demonstrated understanding of systems engineering frameworks and methodologies
- Ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams while maintaining ownership of system requirements
- Experience with requirements management tools and requirements traceability practices
- Strong technical communication skills and the ability to influence engineering decisions across teams
Preferred Experience:
- Consumer products, electromechanical products, embedded systems, or OEM product development environments
- Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
- Experience working with global suppliers, manufacturers, or engineering partners
- INCOSE Systems Engineering certification or formal systems engineering training
- Why This Opportunity Stands Out:
- Opportunity to establish and elevate systems engineering best practices across the organization
- High visibility role with direct impact on product strategy and development processes
- Cross-functional leadership without direct people management responsibilities
- Hybrid work environment in Nashville
- Competitive compensation and benefits package
- Long-term growth opportunity within an innovative product development organization
