Original job description
We are looking for a Strategic Workforce Planner to help shape scalable labor strategies across a fast-paced transport and logistics network. This Long-term Contract position is suited for a strategic, analytical individual who can improve workforce readiness, strengthen retention, and support consistent execution across multiple locations. In this role, you will collaborate with operations, HR, talent acquisition, and site leadership to design practical workforce planning approaches that align staffing decisions with business demand and growth objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate current labor planning approaches across locations and identify ways to improve consistency, flexibility, and operational preparedness.
- Design workforce planning structures that support new facility openings, business expansions, and ongoing site operations.
- Create staffing models that account for hiring demand, ramp-up schedules, contract and permanent labor needs, and frontline supervisory coverage.
- Develop contingency plans for seasonal demand changes, business growth, labor availability challenges, and other volume-related shifts.
- Review attrition patterns and workforce trends across sites, shifts, roles, and tenure groups to uncover retention risks and improvement opportunities.
- Recommend and help implement practical retention initiatives that increase workforce stability in high-volume hourly environments.
- Standardize workforce metrics, planning tools, and reporting methods to improve visibility into turnover, vacancies, attendance, and productivity.
- Present workforce insights and business recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders in a clear, action-oriented manner.
- Support change initiatives by building training materials, communication plans, and implementation tools that encourage adoption and long-term sustainability.
- Travel to operating sites as needed to assess workforce conditions, gather input, and support execution of planning initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in workforce planning, talent strategy, organizational effectiveness, operations planning, consulting, or a closely related area.
- Background supporting large hourly employee populations across multiple sites in logistics, warehousing, distribution, manufacturing, retail, or similar operational settings.
- Strong analytical capability with experience in labor forecasting, staffing model development, and performance reporting.
- Proven ability to improve retention outcomes through data-informed strategies and measurable action plans.
- Experience leading or contributing to process improvement and change management efforts.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence leaders across functions.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed to support site visits and implementation activities.
