We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff or Senior Accountant to join a team in Monmouth County, New Jersey. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys bringing structure to complex financial records, investigating discrepancies, and strengthening day-to-day accounting accuracy. The role offers an opportunity to contribute immediately by supporting core accounting activities, improving reporting reliability, and helping the team operate more efficiently in a changing environment.
Responsibilities:
- Reconcile a wide range of balance sheet accounts and ensure supporting documentation is accurate, complete, and current.
- Investigate mismatched figures, unresolved items, and historical accounting issues to determine root causes and recommend corrections.
- Prepare, review, and record journal entries related to adjustments, clean-up work, and ongoing general ledger activity.
- Examine large sets of financial information to identify unusual trends, inconsistencies, and reporting gaps that require follow-up.
- Provide accounting support tied to organizational process changes, including activities related to ERP transition efforts and updated workflows.
- Use advanced Excel tools to organize, analyze, and reconcile financial data from multiple sources.
- Work closely with accounting and finance partners to improve the quality of reconciliations, reporting accuracy, and internal accountability.
- Communicate reconciliation results, accounting logic, and key findings clearly to team members and stakeholders.
- Assist with daily and month-end accounting needs while helping stabilize operations during a period of transition and process improvement.
- Proven experience handling balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger analysis, and journal entry preparation.
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, queries, and other data analysis functions.
- Ability to review incomplete or disorganized financial information and turn it into clear, supportable accounting conclusions.
- Experience working independently in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities and evolving processes.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to explain accounting concepts, reconciliation methods, and findings to others.
- Familiarity with ERP platforms, with preference for candidates who have used Microsoft Dynamics or similar mid-market accounting systems.
- Background in financial clean-up, forensic-style review, or high-volume reconciliation work is highly valued.
