Original job description

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join an organization in Everett, Washington on a contract-to-permanent basis. This position is ideal for an accounting specialist who enjoys balancing day-to-day transactional work with broader month-end and reporting responsibilities in a collaborative, onsite environment. The role offers strong exposure to payroll, accounts payable, reconciliations, and general ledger activities, along with the opportunity to grow alongside an expanding finance team.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end biweekly payroll processing for approximately 75 employees, including related deductions, benefit impacts, and payroll accuracy checks.
  • Oversee the full accounts payable cycle, handling high-volume invoice processing, payment coordination, and vendor-related documentation.
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger records to support daily accounting operations and period-end close activities.
  • Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to help ensure reliable financial reporting.
  • Contribute to month-end close by organizing supporting schedules, validating balances, and assisting with reporting deliverables.
  • Review employee expense submissions and corporate card activity for accuracy, policy compliance, and proper coding.
  • Produce ad hoc financial and operational reports for finance leadership as business needs arise.
  • Assist the team with accounting process support tied to upcoming system-related changes and ongoing operational improvements.
  • At least 3 years of accounting experience in a Staff Accountant or closely related role.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on accounts payable experience in a full-cycle environment.
  • Practical experience with journal entries, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
  • Background processing payroll with strong attention to accuracy, deadlines, and confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently in a self-directed setting while also following established procedures and guidance.
  • High level of attention to detail with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with finance, HR, and internal stakeholders.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is helpful but not required; exposure to cost accounting is a plus.
