Staff Accountant

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support a leading luxury fashion and retail organization in New York, New York. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who enjoys balancing core close activities with retail-focused financial support in a collaborative team setting. The position will contribute to reconciliations, reporting, and period-end accounting while helping maintain accurate financial records across multiple workstreams.

Responsibilities:

• Perform daily and monthly reconciliations for bank accounts and corporate credit cards, researching and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Support retail accounting operations by recording activity accurately and assisting with financial reporting tied to store and e-commerce transactions.
• Prepare revenue-related analyses and assist with sales tax reporting to help ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
• Contribute to month-end and year-end close by posting journal entries, reviewing general ledger activity, and organizing supporting documentation.
• Partner with accounting team members on special projects and additional assignments that arise during the coverage period.
• Use SAP and other accounting tools to maintain financial data, generate reports, and support routine accounting processes.
• Collaborate with a finance and accounting team to help keep deadlines on track and maintain strong internal coordination.
• Experience in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role with hands-on responsibility for reconciliations and close activities.
• Working knowledge of journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and account analysis.
• Experience supporting sales tax, corporate tax, or related compliance-focused accounting processes.
• Proficiency with SAP in an accounting environment.
• Background in retail or retail e-commerce accounting is strongly preferred.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work successfully within a collaborative team environment.
