We are looking for a Staff Accountant to manage core accounting activities and help maintain accurate, timely financial records for the business in Anaheim, California. This position is ideal for someone who has built a strong foundation in bookkeeping and is ready to take ownership of the full accounting cycle, from daily transaction oversight through month-end reporting. The role offers the opportunity to support leadership with reliable financial information, improve accounting processes, and contribute to a well-organized close and compliance environment.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the company’s general ledger by preparing journal entries and recording accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed asset activity with accuracy.
- Handle day-to-day accounting operations across accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash applications, and maintenance of vendor and customer records.
- Complete monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, intercompany balances, and other balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Lead key month-end close tasks, including posting adjusting entries and helping ensure the close process is completed within established deadlines.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and perform variance analysis to support management review and informed business decisions.
- Record and review payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll liabilities to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Assist with indirect tax and year-end compliance activities, including sales and use tax filings, 1099 preparation, property tax support, and tax package documentation.
- Provide audit and review support by organizing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for external partners.
- Maintain an orderly chart of accounts and close process documentation while identifying opportunities to strengthen accounting workflows and system use.
- At least 3 years of accounting experience, including 2 or more years in a hands-on bookkeeping or full-charge accounting capacity.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical accounting experience.
- Solid understanding of general ledger activity and accrual-based accounting principles.
- Experience using accounting platforms such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or comparable financial systems.
- Strong Excel skills, including the ability to work with pivot tables, formulas, and reconciliation schedules.
- Demonstrated ability to meet month-end deadlines while maintaining a high level of precision and organization.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to explain financial results and variances to non-finance stakeholders.
- Experience with multi-entity or multi-location accounting, AP automation tools, or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
