Original job description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support a busy accounting team. This is a Long-term Contract opportunity in an onsite environment, offering steady work on a Monday through Friday schedule. The person in this role will contribute across accounts payable, month-end close, and general ledger activities while helping maintain accurate financial records for multiple entities.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day accounts payable workflows, including validating invoices, assigning proper accounting treatment, entering transactions, responding to vendor questions, and coordinating payment runs.
- Handle more intricate invoice processing tied to freight, inventory purchases, capital assets, prepaid items, and intercompany activity with a high degree of accuracy.
- Investigate and resolve purchase order and receipt discrepancies by reviewing three-way match exceptions, goods receipt issues, and GR/IR variances.
- Provide accounts payable support across multiple business entities, including coordination related to Canadian operations.
- Administer expense reporting and related accounting tasks through Concur, including both transactional processing and system-related support.
- Prepare accruals, journal entries, and account reconciliations connected to payables and assist with month-end closing requirements.
- Examine invoice packages for completeness, confirm proper approvals, and ensure compliance with internal accounting standards and procedures.
- Partner with internal accounting team members to address processing backlogs, prioritize urgent items, and resolve outstanding payables matters.
- At least five years of accounting experience with strong emphasis on accounts payable and transactional finance.
- Practical experience working in ERP systems, with SAP background strongly preferred.
- Solid knowledge of general ledger activity, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
- Demonstrated ability to work with purchase orders, three-way matching, and GR/IR research and resolution.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills for analysis, reconciliation, and reporting tasks.
- Ability to manage work independently, stay organized, and meet deadlines with limited oversight.
- Experience with Concur, manufacturing or distribution accounting, multi-entity environments, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance is a plus.
