Original job description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a growing manufacturing organization in Minnesota. This role is ideal for an accounting specialist who enjoys balancing day-to-day transactional work with month-end support, reconciliations, and process improvement. You will play an important part in keeping financial records accurate, supporting reporting needs, and collaborating with internal teams to resolve accounting issues in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee routine accounting activities and provide day-to-day support across accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
- Prepare and complete balance sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve discrepancies in line with company accounting standards.
- Support cash management activities by tracking account activity and assisting with cash flow monitoring and related reporting.
- Maintain fixed asset records by processing additions, disposals, and adjustments while ensuring supporting documentation is complete and properly filed.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including recording journal entries and preparing accruals for freight, inventory in transit, and accounts payable.
- Review customer credits, post incoming payments and credit memos, and help ensure receivable balances are recorded accurately.
- Reconcile vendor and inventory-related invoices, enter financial data into accounting systems, and maintain organized vendor records.
- Prepare recurring and ad hoc financial reports and provide accounting backup coverage when needed across the department.
- Collaborate with colleagues, leadership, and external contacts to address accounting questions, improve workflows, and support audit activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
- At least 1-3 years of experience working with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes.
- Strong understanding of journal entries, reconciliations, and core accounting principles.
- Demonstrated accuracy, analytical ability, and attention to detail in financial recordkeeping.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, stay organized, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working independently while also contributing effectively within a team setting.
- Availability to work on-site five days per week and provide additional hours during month-end or other peak periods as needed.
