My client is a midsized construction/safety company that is searching for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their growing construction-related organization in Virginia. This role is ideal for an accounting specialist who wants hands-on involvement across core accounting activities while building toward greater responsibility over time. Working closely with accounting leadership, the person in this position will contribute to accurate financial reporting, support project-focused operations, and help strengthen day-to-day accounting processes.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support monthly closing activities to keep financial records timely, complete, and accurate.
- Prepare, review, and enter journal entries that reflect routine and non-routine accounting transactions.
- Reconcile bank accounts and key balance sheet accounts, investigating differences and resolving outstanding items.
- Analyze variances, research accounting issues, and determine practical solutions to improve reporting accuracy.
- Maintain the general ledger and verify that account activity is properly recorded and supported.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting deliverables for management and external stakeholders.
- Partner with operational teams to address project-based accounting needs and provide financial insight tied to business activity.
- Contribute to audit readiness, compliance support, internal control improvements, and other special projects as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- At least 2 years of accounting experience in a detail-focused environment.
- Prior experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Background in construction accounting is strongly preferred; experience in manufacturing or other project-driven industries is also valued.
- Solid understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statement support activities.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and resolve issues independently.
- Strong Excel skills, along with experience using accounting or ERP systems; familiarity with Foundation software is a plus.
