We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a growing finance team in Bergen County, New Jersey. This position offers the chance to contribute across core accounting activities, including close support, reconciliations, payroll-related accounting, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing details, investigating variances, and finding better ways to streamline routine processes. This role is well suited for someone who wants broad exposure and enjoys working collaboratively across the accounting function.
Responsibilities:
- Create and post recurring and non-routine journal entries related to payroll, accruals, depreciation, reallocations, and other general ledger activity.
- Support monthly closing activities by preparing account analyses and helping ensure financial results are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and company credit card activity while identifying, researching, and clearing outstanding discrepancies.
- Record cash movements, internal transfers, and banking charges with proper documentation and general ledger impact.
- Track and balance intercompany activity across multiple entities, including payroll allocations and related liability accounts.
- Work closely with accounts payable and accounts receivable teams to confirm proper coding, period-end cutoff, and completion of reconciliations.
- Maintain close calendars, accounting procedures, and supporting documentation while recommending improvements that enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Contribute to audit preparation, tax-related support, reporting requests, financial analysis, and additional finance projects as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- At least 3 years of accounting experience with hands-on involvement in general ledger work, month-end close, and reconciliations.
- Solid knowledge of core accounting principles and the relationship between transactions and financial statements.
- Advanced Excel capabilities, including PivotTables, formulas, and data analysis techniques.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate issues and resolve variances efficiently.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in improving processes through technology and automation.
