Original job description
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our client in Pleasanton, California in a Contract to permanent role. This opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who can take ownership of core close activities, support sales tax matters, and deliver thoughtful financial analysis with minimal oversight. The position partners closely with finance and accounting stakeholders and is well suited for someone with SaaS accounting experience, strong Excel capabilities, and comfort using AI tools to improve efficiency.
This is a hybrid position requiring three onsite days per week.
Responsibilities:
- Lead key month-end accounting activities, including journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and timely completion of assigned close tasks.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, weekly cash reconciliations, and income statement variance analysis to explain financial movements clearly.
- Manage sales tax-related work, including registration support, reconciliation of monthly activity, and communication regarding exemption documentation.
- Oversee accounting for prepaids, reserves, deferred revenue, and capitalized commissions, including amortization schedules and customer-related write-offs where applicable.
- Support audit readiness by assembling schedules, validating supporting documentation, and responding to internal and external audit requests.
- Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, close procedures, and internal control documentation to promote consistency and compliance.
- Identify opportunities to streamline recurring accounting work through automation and practical use of AI-enabled tools.
- Provide ad hoc reporting and contribute to special projects that support the broader accounting and finance organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 4–5 years of progressive accounting experience, with prior exposure to SaaS environments strongly preferred.
- Experience with NetSuite and strong working knowledge of general ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliation processes.
- Background in sales tax compliance, including familiarity with Avalara and monthly sales tax reconciliations.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude or Gemini is a plus.
