Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support core accounting operations for a retail business in Holmdel, New Jersey. This role will oversee critical close activities, maintain accuracy across the general ledger, and help ensure financial records are complete and reliable. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid background in reconciliations and journal entry preparation.

Responsibilities:

• Lead month-end closing activities by preparing schedules, reviewing account activity, and helping ensure reporting deadlines are met.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger through timely review, analysis, and correction of financial transactions.
• Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate support to keep accounting records accurate and current.
• Perform detailed reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies to resolution.
• Complete bank reconciliations regularly and follow up on outstanding items to maintain cash accuracy.
• Analyze financial data and account fluctuations to identify unusual activity and support reporting accuracy.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather documentation, clarify transactions, and improve accounting workflows.
• Proven experience in a senior-level accounting role with responsibility for month-end close activities.
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial statement support.
• Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries in a high-volume accounting environment.
• Hands-on expertise in account reconciliation and resolving variances accurately.
• Demonstrated ability to complete bank reconciliations and manage cash-related accounting records.
• High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for financial analysis and reporting.
