Original job description
We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a growing team in Texas in a contract-to-permanent role. This role will play a central part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end close activities, and partnering with operational teams to keep projects aligned with accounting requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong reconciliation and reporting experience, sound knowledge of general ledger activity, and the ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead core month-end close activities, including preparing reconciliations, recording journal entries, and ensuring financial data is completed accurately and on schedule.
- Support the creation of monthly financial reporting packages by compiling schedules, backup documentation, and other supporting analysis for leadership review.
- Prepare and maintain revenue schedules, reconcile balance sheet accounts, and oversee key subledger tie-outs related to receivables, payables, and cash activity.
- Partner with sales and operations teams to confirm projects satisfy administrative, billing, and accounting requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist with financial analysis, forecasting updates, and budget-related reporting in collaboration with the Controller.
- Complete sales tax calculations and filings while helping ensure compliance with established accounting policies and internal controls.
- Provide cross-functional backup for accounts receivable and accounts payable processes to maintain continuity across the accounting department.
- Reconcile bank activity and notes payable to the general ledger each month and investigate variances to resolution.
- Contribute audit support by gathering requested schedules, validating transaction detail, and preparing documentation for annual review.
- Review accounting records and transaction processing for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to company procedures, while handling additional duties as needed.
- Proven experience in a senior accounting role with strong ownership of month-end close and general ledger activities.
- Hands-on background in account reconciliations, including bank, balance sheet, expense, and ledger reconciliations.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare journal entries, analyze financial data, and support monthly and annual financial reporting.
- Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue schedules, and sales tax filings.
- Experience supporting audits, budget processes, and forecast updates in a fast-paced business environment.
- Familiarity with accounting systems such as SAP and QuickBooks.
- Industry experience in construction or project-based accounting environments is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet recurring deadlines.
