Original job description
We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to support accurate financial reporting and a disciplined month-end close process for a regional team with a rapidly growing construction/service company! This position plays a key role in maintaining strong accounting operations, strengthening documentation, and providing meaningful analysis that helps leaders understand business performance. The ideal candidate brings sound technical accounting knowledge, works effectively across departments, and is comfortable improving processes in a multi-entity environment. This position is a fully remote opportunity but needs to sit local to the Kansas area.
Responsibilities:
- Lead core portions of the monthly close cycle by preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial fluctuations to ensure timely completion.
- Verify the accuracy of the general ledger, trial balance, and supporting schedules while meeting established reporting deadlines.
- Develop, organize, and refine close documentation so workpapers remain consistent, well-supported, and ready for audit review.
- Coordinate with both local and corporate stakeholders to investigate variances, resolve issues, and improve insight into financial results.
- Contribute to the preparation of financial statements and related schedules in compliance with U.S. GAAP requirements.
- Evaluate complex accounting matters, including areas such as lease accounting, revenue recognition, and acquisition-related transactions, and apply appropriate treatment.
- Assist with external audit support by preparing requested documentation and delivering complete, accurate responses through designated audit platforms.
- Use systems such as Acumatica, Paylocity, Global PayEx, DataRails, Avalara, and LeaseQuery to improve recurring accounting activities, support integrations, and validate financial data.
- Partner with FP&A, operations, and business leaders on special analyses, reporting requests, and materials that support strategic and board-level decision-making.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity or private equity-backed business.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and hands-on experience managing month-end close activities.
- Proficiency in Excel, with the ability to work effectively in ERP-driven accounting environments.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across remote and cross-functional teams.
- CPA designation, progress toward certification, or a comparable credential is preferred.
- Experience with Acumatica or similar ERP systems, along with exposure to audit, internal controls, and accounting automation tools, is highly valued.
