Original job description

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our client's team on a Contract basis in Palo Alto, California. This position will play a central role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting complex accounting matters tied to revenue, leases, inventory, and joint venture activity, and helping strengthen reporting as the business grows. The role also partners closely with leadership and cross-functional teams to manage site-level project accounting, oversee key schedules, and ensure financial data remains reliable and decision-ready.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the monthly close process from start to finish, including preparing journal entries, completing reconciliations, and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Produce monthly financial reports and analyze significant account fluctuations, providing clear explanations for notable changes.
  • Assist with the accounting review of customer contracts (ASC 606) and lease arrangements (ASC 842), gathering supporting details and applying the appropriate revenue and lease treatment.
  • Maintain schedules for revenue, deferred revenue, and lease activity, and record related transactions in accordance with established accounting conclusions.
  • Review invoicing support and rollforwards prepared by the AP/AR function to confirm alignment between billing, contract terms, and the general ledger.
  • Support accounting for joint ventures and related entities by preparing consolidation entries, intercompany eliminations, or equity method entries as needed.
  • Manage accounting for multi-site deployment projects by tracking budgets, committed spend, actual costs, and construction-in-progress balances through asset placement.
  • Maintain fixed asset and inventory records across equipment, infrastructure, and deployed units, including rollforwards, count reconciliations, and reserve analysis.
  • Contribute to tax and compliance activities such as multistate sales and use tax tracking, property tax support, franchise tax support, and stock-based compensation schedules.
  • 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally combining public accounting and industry exposure.
  • Proven experience owning or heavily managing the month-end close process in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA certification or active progress toward certification is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 and ASC 842, including practical experience with revenue recognition and lease accounting.
  • Familiarity with inventory, fixed asset, equity method, and consolidation accounting under applicable U.S. GAAP guidance.
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.
  • Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks, including enterprise-level or advanced platform functionality.
  • Background in a hardware, infrastructure, startup, or other high-growth business environment is preferred.
