Original job description

We are looking for a Rail Logistics & Fleet Manager to oversee rail transportation activity and support efficient product movement across facilities in Winter Park, Florida. This position plays a central role in managing railcar assets, improving service performance, and controlling transportation-related costs. The ideal candidate brings strong commercial judgment, operational awareness, and the ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams and external logistics partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the day-to-day management of owned and leased railcar assets, ensuring equipment is available, properly utilized, and aligned with shipping needs.
  • Lead commercial discussions with rail carriers and equipment providers to secure favorable freight pricing, lease terms, and support services.
  • Track fleet and shipment performance through metrics such as transit speed, cycle efficiency, dwell, demurrage exposure, asset usage, and movement cost.
  • Maintain reliable visibility into railcar positions, shipment status, and inventory levels across plants, terminals, and transload sites.
  • Partner with transload and facility teams to schedule inbound arrivals, coordinate unloading activity, support outbound planning, and remove operational delays.
  • Work closely with trading, operations, suppliers, customers, railroads, and service partners to keep product moving on schedule and resolve transportation issues quickly.
  • Identify savings opportunities by improving turnaround times, reducing equipment inactivity, and limiting avoidable freight-related charges.
  • Coordinate inspections, cleaning, repair activity, and compliance requirements to support safe and dependable rail fleet operations.
  • Prepare performance summaries, project future equipment demand, and recommend process improvements that support business expansion.
  • Background in rail transportation is required.
  • Working knowledge of railroad operations, freight rate structures, railcar leasing practices, and asset planning.
  • Strong analytical ability with experience interpreting operational data and performance trends.
  • Effective negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skills in a fast-moving business environment.
  • Proficiency with railcar visibility tools, logistics platforms, and reporting systems.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities while coordinating with cross-functional teams and external partners.
