Original job description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Property Accountant to support real estate accounting operations for a portfolio. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who is comfortable working in cloud-based systems, managing day-to-day financial activity, and responding to owner and tenant accounting questions. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to accurate reporting, smooth payment processing, and year-end financial support within a fast-paced property management environment.
Responsibilities:
- Manage daily accounting activity in cloud-based property management platforms, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and consistently.
- Process incoming electronic receipts, pay property-related obligations, and coordinate distributions to property owners in a timely manner.
- Review tenant and owner ledger activity, interpret account details, and address questions related to balances, charges, and payments.
- Prepare and deliver owner accounting statements when requested, maintaining accuracy and professionalism in all communications.
- Oversee electronic payment workflows by updating account information, sending funds, and confirming receipt of payments.
- Handle security deposit transfers and evaluate move-out financial records to support accurate final accounting.
- Support account reconciliation efforts by identifying discrepancies and helping maintain clean and balanced records.
- Assist with year-end close activities, including preparation of financial statements, tax-related documentation, and other assigned accounting projects
- At least 2 years of experience in property accounting or a closely related accounting role.
- Working knowledge of property accounting principles, including general ledger activity, accrual accounting, and month-end close support.
- Experience using cloud-based accounting or property management software; familiarity with AppFolio is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, with the ability to manage financial data efficiently.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and solve problems with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a customer-focused approach when assisting owners, tenants, and internal stakeholders.
- Sound judgment, strong organizational skills, and a consistent track record of accountability and discretion.
