Original job description
We are looking for a Program Manager to lead finance data initiatives for a Financial Services organization in New York, New York. This Long-term Contract position will guide work from early problem identification through clearly defined, engineering-ready requirements while partnering with cross-functional teams to keep priorities aligned. The role calls for strong communication, product thinking, and hands-on analytical ability to turn complex business needs into practical delivery plans.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the full lifecycle of finance data programs, shaping work from initial business challenge through finalized specifications ready for engineering execution.
- Build and maintain a clear, current roadmap for finance data priorities so stakeholders can easily understand timelines, dependencies, and delivery goals.
- Partner with teams across finance, data governance, and business systems to establish effective communication paths and sustain alignment on scope and outcomes.
- Work closely with related product and project teams to manage cross-functional dependencies, reduce delivery risk, and support timely execution.
- Run working sessions that bring the right teams together, document key decisions and open issues, and drive next steps toward resolution.
- Provide concise updates, recommendations, and roadmap insights to senior finance leadership to support informed decision-making.
- Create practical prototypes using Excel, Python, SQL, and AI-enabled tools to clarify ambiguous needs and translate them into build-ready solutions.
- Monitor program risks and obstacles proactively, recommending mitigation strategies that help keep deliverables on track.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex programs or products, preferably within finance, data, or financial services environments.
- Strong ability to communicate with technical and business stakeholders and keep cross-functional teams aligned around shared objectives.
- Advanced Excel skills, with the ability to use data analysis and modeling to support planning and decision-making.
- Hands-on experience with Python and SQL for prototyping, analysis, or translating business needs into technical requirements.
- Understanding of finance data governance practices and the interaction between business systems and data processes.
- Ability to convert vague or evolving problems into structured requirements and actionable delivery plans.
- Experience maintaining decision records, issue tracking, and status reporting for leadership audiences.
- Proven leadership and risk management skills with a track record of supporting on-time delivery across interdependent workstreams.
