Original job description
We are looking for a Procurement Purchasing Agent to support day-to-day purchasing activities for a busy manufacturing operation. This long-term contract opportunity is ideal for a procurement specialist who can balance supplier coordination, order accuracy, and cost-conscious decision-making in a fast-moving environment. The person in this role will partner with internal teams and vendors to keep materials and services flowing efficiently while maintaining strong documentation and purchasing controls.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process purchase orders, ensuring requests are entered accurately and fulfilled within expected timelines.
- Confirm that received goods and services align with agreed pricing, quantities, and contract terms before finalizing records.
- Build productive working relationships with suppliers and serve as a key point of contact for routine purchasing matters.
- Negotiate competitive pricing, delivery schedules, and service terms to support operational needs and budget goals.
- Gather and assess supplier quotes, bid responses, and proposal details to recommend the best purchasing options.
- Investigate and resolve issues involving shipments, receipts, or inventory mismatches in coordination with vendors and internal partners.
- Review shipping and logistics documents, including bills of lading and advance shipment notices, to maintain accurate tracking and compliance.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to meet procurement requirements, support supply chain activities, and maintain reliable purchasing data in company systems.
- Use Excel and ERP platforms to track purchasing activity, analyze trends, monitor vendor performance, and identify savings opportunities.
- At least 3 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, buying, supply chain, or vendor management roles.
- Background in a manufacturing, industrial, construction, distribution, or similarly fast-paced operational setting is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for reporting, tracking, and data analysis.
- Hands-on experience working within ERP or cloud-based business systems; Sage and Epicor knowledge is highly valued.
- Demonstrated ability to manage suppliers, source materials or services, and negotiate commercial terms effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and shifting priorities.
- Clear communication and sound problem-solving skills for working across departments and with external vendors.
