Original job description

We are looking for an experienced Principal Engineer to guide advanced testing and compliance efforts for utility-scale renewable energy systems in Boxborough, Massachusetts. This role will provide technical direction across validation programs for solar photovoltaic equipment, battery energy storage solutions, and associated electrical systems while partnering with clients and internal teams to ensure regulatory alignment. The ideal candidate brings strong engineering judgment, hands-on testing expertise, and the ability to translate complex standards into practical, project-ready solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct comprehensive testing, verification, and system integration activities for large-scale solar, energy storage, and electrical products.
  • Create, evaluate, and authorize detailed test protocols, execution methods, and formal engineering documentation.
  • Apply relevant domestic and international codes and standards to determine compliance pathways and certification requirements.
  • Analyze test results, recognize performance patterns, and recommend technical actions to improve quality and readiness.
  • Conduct or support on-site inspections and operational assessments of photovoltaic and energy storage installations.
  • Advise customers and cross-functional engineering groups on compliance expectations, technical risks, and validation strategies.
  • Oversee project timelines, resource coordination, and stakeholder communication to keep testing programs on track.
  • Contribute to accreditation activities and uphold quality practices that support reliable and defensible test outcomes.
  • Act as a senior technical reference for standards interpretation, product evaluation, and certification-related decisions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 7 years of experience in product validation, test engineering, or compliance work involving electrical equipment.
  • Proven background in utility-scale solar PV, photovoltaics, battery energy storage systems, or closely related technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience developing test plans, supporting system integration, and executing compliance-driven validation programs.
  • Ability to interpret industry standards and convert technical requirements into practical test approaches and reports.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience working directly with clients or external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to customer or project sites and work safely in outdoor field conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license and proficiency with standard business software such as Microsoft Office.
