We are looking for an accomplished Principal Accountant to join a non-profit organization in Minneapolis, Minnesota on a Long-term Contract basis. This role will provide senior-level accounting support by overseeing critical close activities, producing reliable financial information, and strengthening day-to-day accounting operations. The position is best suited for a self-directed, detail-oriented individual who can adapt quickly, work effectively in a large enterprise environment, and contribute immediate value across complex accounting functions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead key month-end close tasks to help ensure financial results are completed accurately, thoroughly, and within established reporting timelines.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules to maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
- Analyze account activity and reporting variances, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues that may affect financial statement accuracy.
- Operate independently within existing accounting workflows and systems, learning organizational processes quickly and requiring minimal oversight.
- Support accounting activities tied to Oracle Fusion, including issue investigation, process refinement, and alignment of reporting needs with system capabilities.
- Partner with finance, technology, and project stakeholders to confirm accounting requirements are reflected appropriately in the Record to Report workstream.
- Assist with process validation, testing coordination, readiness activities, and problem resolution related to the Oracle platform transformation.
- Maintain clear documentation of procedures, open items, and key decisions to enable continuity and effective knowledge transfer throughout the engagement.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial ownership of month-end close and financial reporting responsibilities.
- Strong background in general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and accrual-based accounting.
- Demonstrated experience with fixed asset, intercompany, and cost accounting in a complex organizational setting.
- Proven ability to perform variance analysis and prepare management reporting that supports informed financial decision-making.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle Fusion is required; familiarity with large enterprise Oracle environments is highly preferred.
- Ability to work as a senior individual contributor, manage priorities independently, and become productive quickly in a fast-paced setting.
- CPA designation is preferred and will be considered a strong advantage for this role.
