Brad Stewart with Robert Half Finance & Accounting is recruiting for a Accountant for a manufacturing facility in Fernley, Nevada. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing inventory and cost-related reporting, and helping ensure timely month-end and regulatory submissions. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical ability, hands-on accounting experience in an industrial setting, and the judgment to work effectively across plant and corporate teams.
Responsibilities:
- Manage journal entry activity by reviewing reversing and recurring entries, preparing additional postings as needed, and maintaining organized supporting records.
- Reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts on a routine basis, investigate variances, and compile monthly financial reporting packages for internal and corporate distribution.
- Oversee accounting for raw materials, repair inventory, and other plant supplies by validating receipts, monitoring physical counts, researching discrepancies, and processing approved inventory adjustments.
- Produce plant cost and operational reports, including daily production summaries, monthly cost books, variance analysis, margin reporting, downtime tracking, and significant expenditure documentation.
- Support repair parts and maintenance-related accounting by tracking issue activity, reconciling subsidiary records to the general ledger, and assisting staff with proper inventory system usage.
- Maintain fixed asset records by recording capital additions, processing disposals, calculating depreciation, and reconciling asset balances to the general ledger.
- Perform monthly cash-related reconciliations, including operating bank accounts and petty cash, to ensure completeness and accuracy of recorded transactions.
- Prepare and submit required tax and regulatory filings, such as sales and use tax returns, fuel refund claims, census reporting, coal consumption reporting, and annual support schedules.
- Update budget and reporting files in spreadsheet-based tools, maintain supporting schedules for departmental reporting, and assist with ongoing financial analysis tied to plant performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- At least 5 years of accounting experience, with prior work in manufacturing or plant accounting environments strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of cost accounting, manufacturing cost accounting, standard costing, and cost analysis.
- Experience preparing account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end reports, and financial support schedules with a high degree of accuracy.
- Familiarity with inventory accounting, fixed asset accounting, bank reconciliations, budgeting support, and tax-related filings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to work with pivot tables, formulas, and macros.
- Ability to learn new software applications quickly and adapt to changing reporting and operational needs.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with plant personnel and leadership.
