Original job description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations for a fast-paced organization. This is an onsite contract opportunity with the potential to become permanent, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, ideal for someone who can manage payroll activities accurately and respond effectively to employee and manager questions. The role focuses on end-to-end payroll processing, timekeeping review, reporting, and compliance support while maintaining a high standard of confidentiality and precision.
Responsibilities:
- Manage biweekly and semi-monthly payroll activities from initial review through final processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Investigate timekeeping discrepancies and coordinate with employees and supervisors to secure complete and approved records before payroll deadlines.
- Review employee payroll and timekeeping profiles for new team members to confirm proper system setup and accurate pay-related information.
- Provide day-to-day support to staff and managers on payroll procedures, tax-related questions, and use of payroll and timekeeping systems.
- Conduct payroll validation checks and audits before and after processing to identify issues, correct errors, and reduce processing risk.
- Prepare and distribute payroll, benefits, and reconciliation reports as needed to support operational and management requirements.
- Process supplemental earnings such as commissions and bonuses, along with wage garnishments and federal tax levies, in a timely and compliant manner.
- Support year-end payroll activities, including assistance with tax form preparation, audit documentation, and resolution of payroll-related inquiries from management.
- At least 5 years of payroll experience, including ownership of full-cycle payroll processing.
- Hands-on experience with multi-state payroll in a high-volume or deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, including practical use of VLOOKUPs and PivotTables.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll practices, timekeeping processes, and payroll compliance standards.
- Experience with UKG Pro or closely related payroll and time and attendance platforms is preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive employee information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Capacity to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work under tight payroll deadlines.
