Original job description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Part-Time Bookkeeper to support a busy community-based nonprofit clinic in Alabama. This contract opportunity has the potential to become a permanent position and is ideal for someone who can manage core accounting tasks with accuracy while working independently in a flexible part-time schedule that includes both onsite and remote work. The position will play an important role in maintaining timely financial records, supporting day-to-day administrative processes, and helping strengthen financial organization as the clinic continues to grow.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records across accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring transactions are entered and organized consistently.
- Reconcile bank and financial accounts on a routine basis to confirm balances, resolve discrepancies, and support reliable reporting.
- Process payroll information through Paychex and help verify that compensation records are complete and accurate.
- Track organizational spending and procurement-related activity to support budget visibility and proper documentation of expenses.
- Prepare and monitor monthly financial reporting details, making sure information is current, clear, and ready for internal review.
- Support bookkeeping functions within QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online, including proper coding, record maintenance, and documentation control.
- Provide administrative assistance tied to financial operations by reviewing back-office processes for timeliness, completeness, and accuracy.
- Contribute ideas for improving digital financial workflows and help organize documentation in a more efficient and sustainable format.
- Demonstrated bookkeeping experience with a strong understanding of day-to-day accounting support functions.
- Practical knowledge of QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online for transaction entry, record management, and reporting support.
- Hands-on experience handling accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Ability to manage payroll-related tasks with accuracy; prior experience using Paychex is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain precise expenditure tracking and supporting documentation.
- Comfortable working independently while balancing a partly onsite, partly remote schedule.
- Previous experience in a nonprofit setting or with grant-related financial tracking is helpful.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a community-focused clinic environment.
