Original job description

We are looking for a skilled Paralegal to join a non-profit legal team in Baltimore, Maryland on a Long-term Contract basis. This position supports active litigation by coordinating court submissions, reviewing legal documents with precision, and helping attorneys manage matters involving voting rights and election law. The role is well suited for someone who thrives in a deadline-driven environment and brings strong writing, organization, and case support experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft, revise, and submit litigation documents for matters pending in state and federal courts, ensuring filings meet procedural and formatting requirements.
  • Monitor case calendars and docket activity so attorneys remain informed of upcoming deadlines, hearings, and submission dates.
  • Review pleadings, briefs, motions, and related materials for grammar, citation accuracy, consistency, and overall quality before filing.
  • Maintain organized litigation files, case records, and supporting documentation across matters with a high level of accuracy.
  • Assist with factual development and legal research to support attorneys handling complex advocacy and litigation work.
  • Provide case support for disputes and legal actions related to voting rights, election law, and associated public interest matters.
  • Communicate with clients, court staff, opposing counsel, witnesses, and expert contacts to facilitate case progress and scheduling.
  • Organize discovery, exhibits, and evidentiary materials, and help prepare attorneys for depositions, hearings, and trial proceedings.
  • Support electronic filing activities and manage digital documents within legal case management systems.
  • At least 2 years of paralegal experience, with prior exposure to litigation-focused work preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree, Paralegal Certificate, or a comparable combination of education and relevant legal support experience.
  • Working knowledge of filing procedures in both state and federal courts.
  • Strong proofreading, editing, and legal document formatting abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal document or case management software.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with attorneys, courts, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with discovery, civil litigation, trial preparation, or court filings is highly valued.

Experience supporting voting rights, election law, or other civil rights litigation is strongly preferred. Candidates who have worked on voter protection matters, election-related disputes, or constitutional litigation are encouraged to apply.
