Original job description
We are looking for a hands-on Logistics Coordinator to support daily hub operations in Michigan. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced distribution setting and can keep shipping, dispatch, and pickup activity organized throughout the day. The person in this role will help maintain steady workflow, guide frontline team members, and communicate operational updates to leadership. You will play an important part in keeping transportation activity efficient, safe, and on schedule at the hub.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day movement across the hub by coordinating dispatch, package pickup, and route activity to keep operations on track.
- Provide direction to a team of dispatch staff, balancing workload, reassigning duties as needed, and stepping in when absences affect coverage.
- Monitor shipping volume and operational flow throughout each shift, then share performance updates and key metrics with management.
- Support dispatcher development through real-time coaching on routing decisions, exception handling, and effective communication.
- Lead brief safety discussions and reinforce workplace procedures to help maintain compliance standards across the site.
- Identify issues involving staffing, equipment, or shipment volume and raise concerns promptly to hub or area leadership for resolution.
- Maintain an active presence on the floor and in the yard to observe workflow, address bottlenecks, and support smooth execution of daily logistics activity.
- At least 1 year of experience in dispatching or a similar frontline logistics, shipping, or distribution role.
- Ability to lead peers, provide on-the-job guidance, and assist with training new team members.
- Practical knowledge of logistics coordination, dispatch processes, and transportation operations.
- Comfortable working in a physically active environment with regular time spent on the floor or outdoors.
- Able to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving hub environment.
- Clear communication skills and sound judgment when escalating operational issues to leadership.
