This position offers the opportunity to support attorneys representing labor unions and employees in a variety of workplace, public sector, and labor-related matters.
The ideal candidate is eager to take on substantive legal work while also assisting with the day-to-day support responsibilities that help keep matters moving efficiently. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with conversion based on performance, fit, and business needs.
The candidate will be expected to report on-site in Emeryville for the first 90 days, and then transition to a hybrid schedule.

- Support attorneys handling labor and employment disputes, grievance matters, administrative proceedings, and civil litigation
- Draft correspondence, pleadings, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and other legal documents
- Conduct legal, factual, and public records research
- Assist with document collection, review, organization, and production
- Prepare exhibits, hearing binders, arbitration materials, and case files
- Track deadlines and maintain case calendars
- Coordinate filings with courts, administrative agencies, and related entities
- Communicate with clients, union representatives, opposing counsel, and third parties regarding case-related matters
- Assist with witness interviews, case preparation, and hearing or trial support
- Provide administrative and secretarial support as needed, including scheduling, document formatting, expense processing, and file management
Qualifications
- Experience as a Legal Assistant, Litigation Assistant, or Paralegal preferred
- Interest in labor and employment law, union-side representation, or public-interest-focused legal work
- Experience with legal drafting, discovery, and case management preferred
- Strong legal research, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal document management systems
- ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate is a plus but not required
This role is ideal for a legal professional looking to gain meaningful hands-on experience with litigation, labor relations, employment matters, and union representation while joining a team known for its collaborative and mission-driven culture.
