Original job description

We are looking for a Legal Assistant to join a busy legal practice in Clayton, Missouri and provide dependable support across client service, case coordination, and legal document management. This position is well suited for someone who can step into a fast-moving environment, work independently, and contribute quickly with limited direction. The ideal candidate brings prior experience with court filings, client communication, and preparation of case materials while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the client intake process by collecting preliminary case information, helping individuals complete required forms, and gathering supporting documentation before attorney consultations.
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients by providing status updates, requesting records or paperwork, and coordinating appointments and case-related communications.
  • Draft, revise, proofread, and compile pleadings, correspondence, and other legal materials to ensure documents are accurate and ready for attorney review.
  • Prepare complete filing packets and submit court documents through applicable electronic filing systems in accordance with state and local court procedures.
  • Support guardianship and conservatorship matters by assisting with case preparation from opening through submission of required filings.
  • Maintain organized physical and digital case files so records, correspondence, and supporting materials are accessible and up to date.
  • Review documents for sensitive content and properly redact confidential information before materials are filed or shared.
  • Assemble exhibits, hearing binders, and related documentation to support attorneys in hearings, including discharge appeal matters.
  • Coordinate the collection and organization of medical records and other evidentiary materials needed for case development.
  • Track calendars, court dates, and filing deadlines to help ensure timely completion of legal work and compliance obligations.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a Legal Assistant, Paralegal Assistant, or similar legal support role.
  • Hands-on experience with court filings and electronic filing procedures in state or local court systems.
  • Working knowledge of civil litigation support and legal document preparation.
  • Familiarity with guardianship and conservatorship matters is strongly preferred.
  • Strong calendar management skills with the ability to monitor multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with clients, attorneys, and court personnel.
  • High attention to detail, including proofreading accuracy and careful handling of confidential information.
