Original job description
We are looking for a dependable Legal Assistant to support a small law practice in South Carolina. This contract position will provide coverage during an unexpected medical leave for approximately 6-8 weeks, with training provided by the lead paralegal before the assignment begins. The role is well suited for someone with prior legal support experience who can manage administrative and case-related tasks in a collaborative office environment.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain legal and case files by organizing documents, updating records, and ensuring materials are easy to retrieve.
- Process incoming medical records by scanning, uploading, and tracking documents within the firm’s legal technology platforms.
- Assist with document preparation by working from established templates and formatting materials for attorney review.
- Support daily office operations through copying, filing, and handling general administrative tasks with accuracy and speed.
- Update case information in systems such as Amicus and Microsoft 365 to help keep matters current and well organized.
- Provide dependable office coverage during a contract staffing gap, including a short period with limited on-site team support.
- Coordinate routine case support activities so attorneys and paralegal staff can stay focused on client matters.
- At least 1 year of experience in a legal assistant or similar law office support role.
- Ability to manage copying, scanning, and filing tasks with strong attention to detail.
- Experience handling medical records or related documentation in a detail-focused setting.
- Comfortable using document templates rather than drafting legal materials from scratch.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and confidence learning case management or legal record systems.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a small office environment.
- Dependable, detail-focused, and able to step into a fast-moving assignment with minimal ramp-up time.
