Original job description

We are looking for an experienced Lead Accounts Receivable Specialist to support receivables operations for a Long-term Contract opportunity based in Blaine, Minnesota. This role combines hands-on cash application work, commercial collections, and account research to help maintain accurate balances and steady payment activity. The position works closely with internal sales and distribution partners while delivering responsive service to customers and supporting month-end accounting needs. After initial training, the role follows a hybrid schedule with one in-office day each week.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead weekly cash application activities, including posting incoming check and card payments and ensuring receipts are applied accurately and on time.
  • Investigate unapplied cash, short payments, and account variances, then resolve outstanding issues to keep customer ledgers current.
  • Manage a portfolio of overdue commercial accounts by conducting consistent follow-up and promoting timely collection of outstanding balances.
  • Collaborate with branch sales teams and distribution center contacts to address payment concerns, remove obstacles, and support positive customer relationships.
  • Perform detailed account research related to returns, deductions, and billing disputes so open items can be cleared efficiently.
  • Review customer balances and credit-held orders to help confirm account accuracy and support timely order release decisions.
  • Prepare receivables aging reports, customer statements, and clear account notes to provide visibility into payment status and collection activity.
  • Contribute to month-end close tasks and identify opportunities to improve accounts receivable workflows and overall process efficiency.

*Please note that all candidates are required to provide 2 recent supervisor or manager references in order to be considered for employment.

Please submit your resume and call 651-293-3973 for review and consideration.

  • Demonstrated experience in accounts receivable with strong knowledge of cash applications, account reconciliation, and business-to-business collections.
  • Background handling commercial collections, billing issues, and invoice-related research in a corporate or multi-location environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook for reporting, communication, and day-to-day account management.
  • Familiarity with Billtrust or comparable receivables and payment-processing platforms is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a detail-focused approach to customer and internal stakeholder interactions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage priorities independently and follow through on unresolved items.
  • Ability to analyze discrepancies, reconcile account activity, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced accounting environment.
