Original job description

We are looking for an accomplished technology leader to guide platform and infrastructure functions through a period of operational improvement and long-range transformation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This contract opportunity is suited for someone who can strengthen day-to-day reliability while shaping a forward-looking strategy for cloud, data center, and enterprise platform services. The role will lead a sizable technical organization, partner with senior leadership, and build a more disciplined, accountable, and scalable engineering environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for platform engineering, infrastructure, and IT operations to improve service stability and team performance.
  • Direct managers and technical leads across server administration, network engineering, and data center operations, overseeing an organization of approximately 40 to 50 employees and contractors.
  • Build and execute a modernization plan for enterprise platforms, including assessment of hybrid cloud, full cloud, managed service, and other future-state architecture options.
  • Develop roadmaps for reducing dependence on legacy mainframe systems and for advancing data center strategy, including migration planning and evaluation of an additional facility location.
  • Establish stronger standards for infrastructure governance, lifecycle management, change control, release coordination, testing practices, and production readiness.
  • Champion Site Reliability Engineering and observability efforts to improve system reliability, visibility, and operational response.
  • Review availability, performance, and resilience metrics to identify technical debt, eliminate inefficiencies, and prioritize infrastructure improvements.
  • Assess organizational capabilities, identify skill or leadership gaps, and implement changes that strengthen accountability, consistency, and execution.
  • Collaborate with executive stakeholders to align infrastructure investments and transformation initiatives with long-term business objectives.
  • Proven director-level leadership experience in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or enterprise IT operations.
  • Background managing large technical teams of 40 or more professionals, including both employees and contractors.
  • Broad expertise spanning enterprise servers, networking, data center environments, and core infrastructure platforms.
  • Demonstrated success leading infrastructure modernization efforts and developing cloud migration or cloud adoption strategies.
  • Strong command of operational governance, including change management, release planning, testing discipline, and production readiness practices.
  • Experience advancing Site Reliability Engineering and observability capabilities within complex enterprise environments.
  • Ability to evaluate talent, address performance or skill gaps, and lead organizational improvements effectively.
  • Technical familiarity with areas such as Active Directory, backup solutions, Cisco technologies, hardware, configuration management, enterprise architecture, enterprise networks, enterprise servers, and data center operations.
