Original job description
We are looking for an accomplished Internal Audit leader to shape and oversee a high-impact audit function for a growing financial services organization. This role offers the opportunity to guide an established team while designing a scalable audit approach that supports sound governance, effective controls, and regulatory readiness. The ideal candidate brings strong executive presence, deep knowledge of financial institution risk, and the ability to provide practical insight to senior leadership and the Audit Committee.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the internal audit function with a strong emphasis on independence, quality standards, and alignment with governance expectations.
- Design and refine the audit framework, operating approach, and team capabilities to support a growing and increasingly regulated business environment.
- Build and maintain the enterprise audit universe and risk assessment process by partnering with leadership to reflect business changes, compliance demands, and emerging risks.
- Create and deliver a risk-based audit plan that evaluates key controls, governance practices, and areas of significant organizational exposure.
- Lead the scoping, oversight, and execution of audits in high-risk or developing areas where sound judgment is essential.
- Determine the right mix of internal staff and external specialists to ensure the audit plan is executed with appropriate depth, expertise, and capacity.
- Partner with compliance, risk, and external assurance providers to improve coverage, strengthen coordination, and minimize redundant review activity.
- Present audit observations, root causes, and remediation expectations to management and the Audit Committee in a clear and constructive manner.
- Track management action plans and elevate concerns when corrective measures are delayed, incomplete, or ineffective.
- Serve as a key contact for regulatory interactions related to internal audit, including examinations, requests, and follow-up discussions.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in internal audit, audit leadership, or a closely related assurance function.
- Prior experience within a financial institution or through public accounting work supporting financial services clients.
- Demonstrated success developing a comprehensive audit plan and presenting recommendations or results to a board of directors or Audit Committee.
- Strong knowledge of risk-based auditing, internal controls, governance frameworks, and audit committee reporting practices.
- Proven ability to build, strengthen, or enhance an internal audit function in a dynamic organizational setting.
- Executive-level communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders while maintaining independence and objectivity.
- Experience leading audit teams and managing co-sourced or third-party subject matter experts when needed.
