Original job description

We are looking for a part-time Human Resources Generalist to help build and support key HR operations for a growing transportation company. This contract opportunity has the potential to become a permanent role and is ideal for someone who can balance day-to-day HR administration with the creation of foundational processes, policies, and compliance practices. The person in this role will play an important part in recruiting, onboarding, benefits coordination, and maintaining accurate employee records in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead recruitment efforts for dispatcher and other business-critical roles, including candidate screening, coordination, and onboarding support.
  • Prepare and manage onboarding activities, ensuring documentation for new team members is completed accurately and on time.
  • Establish and organize core HR procedures, records, and administrative workflows to support a developing HR function.
  • Research, evaluate, and help coordinate employee benefit options that align with company needs and workforce expectations.
  • Maintain compliance with employment regulations and required documentation, including I-9 records and industry-related standards.
  • Support DOT and driver-related compliance tracking to help the organization meet operational and regulatory obligations.
  • Use Paychex and related HRIS tools to maintain personnel information, reporting, and general HR data accuracy.
  • Partner with leadership and training contacts to review current HR practices, assess gaps, and identify future priorities through recurring check-ins.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist or broad HR support role.
  • Demonstrated background in employee onboarding, HR administration, and employee relations.
  • Experience supporting hiring processes, including recruiting coordination and hiring decisions.
  • Knowledge of benefits administration, compliance documentation, and standard HR recordkeeping practices.
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms; experience with Paychex is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of employment compliance requirements, including I-9 processes and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently in a startup setting and help create structured HR processes from the ground up.
