Original job description

We are looking for an experienced Human Resources Director to guide and strengthen the people function for a growing managed services organization in California. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for a strategic and hands-on leader who can build scalable HR programs, support business growth, and foster a strong employee experience. The role will partner closely with leadership to drive talent strategy, workforce planning, compliance, and organizational development across a multi-state environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and mentor the HR team across multiple office locations, providing leadership to HR administration, front-office support, and training resources.
  • Lead full-cycle recruiting efforts for technical, engineering, and revenue-generating roles while improving recruitment speed and overall candidate quality.
  • Oversee employee onboarding and training operations by administering the learning platform, assigning coursework, tracking completion, and ensuring managers maintain current content.
  • Manage performance review programs and people analytics, including quarterly evaluation cycles, retention tracking, and reporting workforce insights to senior leadership.
  • Support mergers and acquisitions from the HR perspective by coordinating due diligence, aligning compensation and benefits, preparing offers, and integrating newly acquired employees.
  • Maintain compliance with employment regulations across multiple states, update HR policies and handbook materials, and guide employee relations matters with sound judgment.
  • Administer compensation and benefits programs to ensure employees receive accurate information and a consistent experience.
  • Champion a values-driven workplace culture by helping leaders recruit, coach, and develop employees in alignment with organizational expectations.
  • At least 7 years of progressive human resources experience, including 2 or more years leading an HR function or team.
  • Demonstrated success helping an organization grow from fewer than 100 employees to more than 300 employees.
  • Practical experience leading the people-related workstream for mergers, acquisitions, or business integrations.
  • Strong knowledge of California and Texas employment law, along with broader multi-state HR compliance practices.
  • Background recruiting for technical or specialized business roles; experience in managed services or IT services is preferred.
  • Ability to clearly communicate compensation structures, benefits offerings, and equity incentive programs to employees.
  • HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR is preferred.
  • Strong capability in employee relations, benefits administration, HR operations, and compliance management.
