Original job description

Jenny Bour with Robert Half is working with a growing organization that is looking for an experienced Human Resources Director to lead daily HR operations and provide practical support to leaders and employees. This HR Director role oversees core people functions including employee relations, recruiting, payroll coordination, benefits administration, performance management, and policy development. The ideal Human Resources Director candidate brings strong judgment, a hands-on approach, and a thorough understanding of employment compliance and HR best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct daily human resources activities, including onboarding, separations, personnel file oversight, employment documentation, and policy administration.
  • Create, refine, and implement HR policies, procedures, and workflows that align with organizational goals and legal requirements.
  • Oversee payroll, compensation, and benefits programs, while evaluating market trends, program costs, and regulatory updates to recommend improvements.
  • Support staffing efforts by collaborating with department leaders on staffing plans, updating job descriptions, coordinating candidate screening, and guiding the interview and selection process.
  • Manage offer documentation, new employee setup, and engagement initiatives designed to strengthen employee retention.
  • Advise managers and staff on workplace concerns, policy interpretation, performance issues, and employee relations matters with consistency and discretion.
  • Facilitate performance improvement efforts, disciplinary actions, investigations, and related documentation, escalating sensitive matters when appropriate.
  • Coordinate orientation, required training, and employee development activities in partnership with operational leadership.
  • Monitor federal and New York employment requirements, maintain required records and notices, and address compliance risks through corrective action planning.
  • Work with leadership, legal counsel, and external vendors on benefits, compliance, and other employment-related matters as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in human resources management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of employee relations, HR administration, and performance management practices.
  • Experience administering compensation, payroll, and employee benefit programs.
  • Strong understanding of federal and New York State employment laws and compliance obligations.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and sound judgment.
  • Certification such as PHR or SHRM-CP is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to partner effectively with leaders across the organization.
