Original job description
We are looking for an experienced Grants Writer to support a mission-driven organization serving youth in Houston, Texas. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for a strong writer who can step in quickly, manage grant work with limited supervision, and help sustain funding efforts during an active reporting period and upcoming grant cycle. The role offers a flexible hybrid work environment and a chance to contribute to programs that make a meaningful community impact.
Responsibilities:
- Develop persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting narratives tailored to foundation, corporate, and institutional funding opportunities.
- Manage the full grant lifecycle by tracking deadlines, preparing submission materials, and helping ensure applications are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
- Produce clear and compliant grant reports that communicate program outcomes, budget use, and organizational impact to funders.
- Work closely with leadership and internal stakeholders to gather program data, financial details, and supporting content needed for proposals and reporting.
- Maintain organized records of grant activity, including submissions, award status, reporting schedules, and required documentation.
- Contribute independently from the start by identifying priorities, advancing assigned projects, and adapting to the organization’s funding calendar.
- Participate in occasional onsite meetings with team members and leadership as part of a hybrid work schedule.
- Provide writing samples during the interview process and demonstrate alignment with the organization’s mission through thoughtful, audience-focused communication.
- At least 3 years of grant writing experience, with the ability to handle assignments independently.
- Proven success writing proposals, grant applications, or related funding materials in a work setting.
- Strong writing, editing, and research skills with close attention to detail and submission accuracy.
- Experience coordinating multiple deadlines and managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to gather information from cross-functional teams and turn complex details into compelling written content.
- Genuine interest in youth services and the ability to reflect mission alignment through written work.
- Willingness to complete background screening as part of the hiring process.
- Availability to work in a flexible hybrid environment with periodic onsite meetings in Houston, Texas.
