Original job description
We are looking for a Gateway Export Coordinator to support international air export activity for a logistics operation based in California. This opportunity is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment and takes pride in keeping shipments organized, compliant, and on schedule. The person in this role will work closely with internal departments, airline partners, and overseas contacts to keep freight moving efficiently and accurately.
Responsibilities:
- Create, verify, and organize export paperwork such as master and house air waybills, customs-related filings, commercial invoices, and other shipment records required for international airfreight moves.
- Manage gateway export activity by planning consolidations and direct departures in line with routing instructions, customer expectations, and airline cut-off times.
- Arrange airline bookings and coordinate capacity needs to support timely departures while maintaining productive working relationships with carrier partners.
- Track shipments from departure through transit, review flight activity, and respond quickly to delays, exceptions, or documentation issues that could affect delivery.
- Partner with warehouse personnel to confirm cargo is labeled, built, documented, and loaded correctly before tendering freight to the airline.
- Apply export compliance standards by following applicable government, customs, and transportation regulations for each shipment handled.
- Maintain complete and accurate operational records within freight systems and supporting files to meet internal standards and audit requirements.
- 1-2 years of experience in air export operations, ideally within a gateway, consolidation, or freight forwarding environment.
- Working knowledge of international export documents and regulatory requirements related to airfreight shipping and customs compliance.
- Familiarity with airline booking tools and freight forwarding platforms such as CargoWise, Webcargo, or similar systems.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments, deadlines, and changing priorities at once.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with internal teams, carriers, warehouses, and overseas offices.
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced setting where accuracy and time-sensitive execution are essential.
- Experience or training related to dangerous goods handling is a plus.
