We are looking for an experienced Financial Crimes Compliance specialist to join a growing team in Ohio. This permanent opportunity is well suited for someone who brings strong investigative judgment, a solid understanding of AML and KYC practices, and the ability to evaluate complex customer and transaction activity. The role offers the chance to contribute at a senior level while supporting team development, strengthening compliance quality, and helping reduce financial crime risk across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and conduct in-depth reviews of customer behavior and transaction activity to detect unusual patterns and potential financial crime concerns.
- Evaluate alerts, case details, and supporting records to determine risk exposure related to money laundering, fraud, sanctions, and other compliance issues.
- Escalate significant findings when warranted and provide clear recommendations for additional review or action.
- Perform research using internal systems, public-source information, sanctions tools, and adverse media screening to build well-supported customer risk assessments.
- Examine complex case files for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with internal compliance expectations and documentation standards.
- Prepare organized investigative summaries, conclusions, and rationale within case management tools and reporting templates.
- Analyze customer data, transactional trends, and collected evidence to identify possible regulatory or operational concerns.
- Coach less experienced analysts by sharing investigative guidance, offering feedback, and promoting sound case handling practices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts that enhance investigative workflows, quality controls, and adherence to regulatory requirements.
- At least 2 years of experience in compliance, financial crimes, AML, KYC, fraud, risk, or related operational work within financial services or insurance.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate suspicious activity, conduct due diligence reviews, and assess customer risk.
- Working knowledge of anti-money laundering practices, know-your-customer standards, fraud prevention, and financial crimes controls.
- Experience mentoring, training, reviewing, or guiding the work of other team members.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to make sound risk-based decisions.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce thorough case narratives and findings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel; relevant compliance certifications are a plus3
