This leader will shape long-range strategy, strengthen community impact, and ensure the delivery of responsive, high-quality legal representation. The role requires a strong executive presence, sound operational judgment, and the ability to partner effectively with the board, staff, funders, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Set organizational direction by translating mission-driven goals into long-term strategy, measurable priorities, and practical operating plans.
  • Partner with the Board of Directors on governance matters, policy development, strategic decision-making, and the identification and onboarding of new board members.
  • Direct financial stewardship by managing the annual budget, monitoring fiscal performance, and maintaining clear accountability across funding and reporting processes.
  • Expand and sustain revenue through donor engagement, grant support, and other fundraising efforts that strengthen financial stability.
  • Improve organizational performance by establishing effective policies, workflows, and systems that support efficient operations and strong staff execution.
  • Oversee personnel and organizational resources, cultivating an inclusive workplace culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and career growth.
  • Ensure legal programs consistently deliver high-caliber client service, including leadership oversight of litigation, operations, or multiple service locations as needed.
  • Develop new advocacy initiatives and legal service offerings in response to emerging community needs and broader access-to-justice priorities.
  • Represent the organization across community, legal, and civic networks while building productive relationships with funders, bar associations, courts, and community partners.
  • Monitor external developments affecting the organization’s work and lead efforts that advance systemic change for the populations served.
  • Juris Doctor degree and active admission to the Florida Bar.
  • Demonstrated success in executive or senior leadership within a legal services, nonprofit, or closely related environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present effectively to diverse audiences and serve as a credible public representative.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with boards, courts, government officials, community organizations, funders, and client populations.
  • Solid understanding of nonprofit finance, including budgeting, grant oversight, compliance, and financial reporting.
  • Effective people leadership skills, including hiring, supervision, coaching, delegation, and staff development.
  • Familiarity with Florida legal aid or related statewide legal service programs is preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for regional and statewide meetings, conferences, and stakeholder engagement.
