Original job description

We are looking for an Entry Level Portfolio Manager to join a banking team in Saint Paul, Minnesota on a Long-term Contract basis. This opportunity is well suited for someone who wants to build hands-on experience in commercial credit, portfolio oversight, and client support within a collaborative community banking environment. The role centers on maintaining loan portfolio quality, assisting with credit-related review activities, and supporting collection and special assets efforts tied to commercial relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage assigned commercial credit relationships by monitoring documentation, tracking follow-up items, and helping keep portfolio records accurate and current.
  • Partner with lending and credit teams to review financial information, loan structures, and risk considerations so files are prepared for informed decision-making.
  • Support collection and special assets activities for commercial accounts, including workout situations, recovery efforts, and resolution planning.
  • Work through delinquent or challenged credits by evaluating collateral positions, coordinating next steps, and helping move matters toward practical outcomes.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and internal stakeholders on litigation-related account activity, documentation needs, and credit resolution strategies when required.
  • Serve as a reliable point of contact for clients by addressing questions, coordinating with internal departments, and maintaining strong day-to-day service relationships.
  • Assist with portfolio reviews, file remediation, reporting tasks, and data cleanup projects to improve overall credit administration and operational consistency.
  • Contribute to ongoing loan administration support by reviewing agreements, identifying missing items, and helping ensure files align with internal standards and policy expectations.
  • At least 3 years of experience in commercial collections, special assets, portfolio management, or a related banking credit function.
  • Working knowledge of commercial credit analysis, financial statements, and loan structures within a banking environment.
  • Experience handling collections involving conventional, organizational, or nonprofit commercial relationships rather than consumer auto accounts.
  • Ability to manage workout credits independently, assess collateral recovery options, and advance files with limited supervision.
  • Familiarity with loan documentation, loan administration practices, and credit file maintenance requirements.
  • Confidence working with legal counsel and navigating litigation management processes connected to problem credits.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance multiple files and deadlines effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients and internal banking teams.
