Original job description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Dispatcher to support daily delivery operations in Warren, Michigan. This is a Long-term Contract position focused on coordinating routes, monitoring driver activity, and helping keep service running smoothly throughout the day. The role is primarily desk-based but also requires a visible presence on the floor and in the yard to assist with loadout activities and resolve operational issues quickly.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate daily activities for a high-volume driver fleet by organizing assignments, tracking progress, and responding to service issues throughout each shift.
- Use dispatch and route-management tools to build schedules, follow delivery performance, and maintain accurate operational visibility.
- Support pre-loadout preparation by receiving inbound trucks, helping organize packages by route, and ensuring the site is ready for driver departures.
- Manage loadout operations by checking drivers in and out, addressing package or route questions, and reinforcing delivery procedures, safety expectations, and service standards.
- Monitor drivers while they are on the road, investigate failed deliveries, and work through exceptions to keep routes moving efficiently.
- Review proof-of-delivery records and photos, identify missing or incorrect documentation, and escalate issues related to compliance, payment, or technology when needed.
- Reset and organize the dispatch floor after departures, document unresolved concerns, and prepare clear handoff notes for the evening or remote support team.
- Provide coverage across multiple dispatch stations as needed and assist with package sorting during peak periods to maintain workflow continuity.
- At least 2 years of experience in dispatching, logistics coordination, or a related service operations environment.
- Proficiency with computer-based tools such as Slack, Google Sheets, and other dispatch or tracking systems.
- Ability to stay organized and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a detail-oriented, approachable style when supporting drivers and internal teams.
- Clear and empathetic communication skills, with the ability to explain instructions and resolve issues effectively.
- Willingness to work in both desk-based and active floor environments, including outdoor exposure as needed.
- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
