Original job description

We are looking for a Dispatcher to support daily delivery operations in New York through hands-on coordination, route oversight, and driver support. This contract position with permanent potential is best suited for someone who is comfortable balancing desk-based logistics work with an active presence on the floor and in the yard. The role focuses on keeping delivery activity organized, addressing operational issues in real time, and helping drivers stay on track throughout the day.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day dispatch activity for a large driver group, helping maintain efficient delivery flow across numerous assigned routes.
  • Use internal routing and tracking platforms to build schedules, monitor driver progress, and respond quickly to service disruptions.
  • Support pre-departure operations by receiving incoming vehicles, organizing packages for route staging, and preparing the site for driver loadout.
  • Assist drivers during departure by handling check-in and check-out tasks, resolving delivery-related questions, and reinforcing service and compliance expectations.
  • Oversee in-route activity by tracking performance, following up on delivery issues, and escalating technical, payment, or policy concerns when needed.
  • Review proof-of-delivery records and photos, identify missing or inaccurate documentation, and ensure discrepancies are properly flagged.
  • Close out daily operations by reconciling undelivered items, resetting the workspace, and preparing a detailed handoff for the evening support team.
  • Provide coverage across dispatch stations as needed to help maintain continuous operational support throughout the site.
  • Pitch in with limited package sorting during high-volume periods to help keep loadout timelines on schedule.
  • Prior experience in dispatch, logistics coordination, transportation support, or a similar service-focused operations role.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including comfort with communication and spreadsheet tools such as Slack and Google Sheets.
  • Ability to stay organized and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a detail-oriented, approachable style when working with drivers and site teams.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to give guidance with empathy and confidence.
  • Willingness to work in both office and active operational areas, including regular time on the floor or in the yard.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and work outdoors as business needs require.
