Original job description
We are looking for a Dispatcher to join a fast-paced logistics operation. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who thrives in a desk-based coordination role while staying actively engaged with drivers and on-site activity throughout the day. The position focuses on organizing route execution, supporting delivery teams, and keeping daily operations moving efficiently from pre-loadout through post-route follow-up.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate daily routing activity for a large group of drivers, using internal tools to track progress and maintain organized delivery schedules.
- Support pre-departure operations by receiving inbound vehicles, helping organize packages by route, and preparing the site for an efficient loadout process.
- Assist drivers during departure by handling check-in and check-out activities, resolving delivery questions, and providing guidance on service expectations and compliance standards.
- Monitor route activity throughout the day, identify service issues, and escalate payment, technical, or policy-related concerns to the appropriate teams.
- Review proof-of-delivery records and photos, flag missing or inaccurate documentation, and ensure follow-up actions are properly recorded.
- Reconcile undelivered or failed packages after routes are completed and help restore the floor for the next operating cycle.
- Maintain clear shift documentation, including risk reporting when needed and written handoff notes for the remote dispatch team covering later operations.
- Provide coverage across multiple dispatch stations as needed to support continuous on-site coordination during active operating hours.
- During high-volume periods, contribute limited hands-on support with package sorting and staging to help keep operations on schedule.
- Previous experience in dispatch, logistics coordination, transportation support, or a similar service-focused operations role.
- Strong computer proficiency, including comfort working in tools such as Slack, Google Sheets, and dispatch or routing platforms.
- Ability to stay organized and make sound decisions in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to interact clearly, professionally, and empathetically with drivers and team members.
- Customer service mindset and strong interpersonal skills for coaching, issue resolution, and day-to-day operational support.
- Willingness to maintain an active presence on the floor and in the yard, including outdoor exposure as part of daily responsibilities.
- Ability to lift and move items up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Self-directed approach to work with the initiative to identify issues and act quickly when priorities shift.
