Controller

We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead financial oversight and support sound business decision-making in Toledo, Ohio. This position is responsible for directing core accounting activities, supervising external accounting support, and delivering timely financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to accuracy, compliance, and ethical financial management.

Responsibilities:

• Direct the company’s accounting operations and ensure financial activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable reporting standards.
• Prepare and present recurring financial, management, board, and lender reports that provide clear insight into business performance and financial position.
• Develop, maintain, and improve accounting policies, records, and internal controls to reduce risk and support reliable financial reporting.
• Partner with internal leaders and external stakeholders to explain results, provide financial analysis, and support strategic planning initiatives.
• Oversee outsourced accounting services and monitor the quality, timeliness, and effectiveness of delivered work.
• Manage payroll and benefits administration while helping ensure related financial records and obligations are handled correctly.
• Monitor debt obligations, cash activity, and treasury-related matters to support timely payments and effective financial stewardship.
• Maintain the chart of accounts, organized financial documentation, and structured accounting processes across the organization.
• Contribute to budgeting, capital planning, asset management, contractor oversight, and evaluation of overall company performance.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership responsibility in a controller or senior financial management role.
• Strong background in financial analysis, budgeting, cash management, and treasury operations.
• Experience using Sage accounting software or comparable financial systems.
• Solid knowledge of financial reporting principles and internal control practices.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly through both written reports and verbal presentations.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to guide teams, manage external partners, and work effectively across departments.
• Strong analytical thinking, business writing, time management, and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work primarily in an office setting with occasional evening or weekend hours as business needs require.
