Original job description

We are looking for a Controller to lead the company’s core accounting, financial reporting, payroll, and cash management activities in Deer Park, New York. This role will oversee day-to-day financial operations, support compliance across payroll and union reporting, and help maintain strong controls across treasury, insurance, legal documentation, and administrative processes. The ideal candidate brings a hands-on approach, sound judgment, and the ability to manage both detailed accounting work and broader operational oversight in a growing business environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily accounting operations, ensuring financial activity is accurately recorded from subledgers through the general ledger and supporting timely month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Direct receivables and payables functions, including billing, cash application, collections, vendor payment scheduling, invoice review, and reconciliation of supporting purchasing and receiving records.
  • Maintain inventory costing records, prepare recurring inventory analysis, and assess reserve needs for excess or slow-moving stock.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, debt schedules, interest accruals, and other adjustments needed to produce reliable monthly financial statements.
  • Oversee weekly payroll processing for hourly and salaried staff, validate payroll controls and funding, and coordinate submissions and reconciliations with the external payroll provider.
  • Administer union-related payroll obligations, including benefits and dues remittances, required wage reporting, contract compliance, and support for union audit activity.
  • Monitor daily cash balances, develop cash flow forecasts, manage borrowing activity, execute secure payment transactions, and maintain banking controls such as positive pay review.
  • Support legal, insurance, and corporate administration by managing agreements, renewals, licenses, coverage audits, claims coordination, and required business records.
  • Partner with outsourced service providers to maintain business software licensing, IT support continuity, network security, backup processes, and employee-related administrative activities such as onboarding, benefits coordination, and policy updates.
  • Demonstrated experience leading accounting and financial operations in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger management, reconciliations, accruals, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and monthly financial close procedures.
  • Experience overseeing payroll processing, including coordination with third-party providers and maintaining accurate payroll controls.
  • Familiarity with union payroll reporting, fringe benefit administration, dues remittances, and compliance with collective bargaining requirements.
  • Solid treasury management skills, including cash forecasting, bank reconciliations, working capital oversight, and debt tracking.
  • Ability to manage financial documentation, contractual records, and administrative reporting with a high level of accuracy and organization.
  • Proficiency in account analysis, discrepancy resolution, and maintaining well-controlled accounting processes.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively across finance, operations, external vendors, and service partners.
