Original job description
Robert Half Legal is partnering with a technology company operating in the cryptocurrency and financial services space to identify an experienced Compliance Specialist for a short-term (~1 month) contract assignment supporting its legal and compliance team during a parental leave. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in financial services regulatory compliance, with hands-on experience supporting multiple compliance functions, including sanctions, marketing and communications review, and regulatory advisory matters. This position is best suited for a versatile, adaptable compliance professional who is comfortable operating as an individual contributor, can quickly familiarize themselves with existing programs, and independently manage day-to-day compliance responsibilities with minimal ramp-up time. While direct cryptocurrency experience is preferred, candidates with relevant fintech, banking, payments, broker-dealer, or other regulated financial services experience are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain day-to-day regulatory compliance operations for existing financial products and services, including U.S. derivatives and prediction market products operating under applicable regulatory guidance and no-action relief.
- Review marketing materials, promotional content, and external communications to identify potential regulatory compliance concerns and ensure alignment with applicable requirements.
- Support compliance activities associated with third-party financial product integrations, including coordination with internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Administer and maintain the company's existing sanctions compliance program, including monitoring ongoing obligations and addressing compliance-related issues.
- Support oversight of U.K. financial promotions compliance requirements, including reviewing applicable communications and maintaining established compliance procedures.
- Provide practical regulatory compliance guidance to internal business teams regarding existing products, services, and operational activities.
- Monitor geographic restrictions, jurisdiction-specific regulatory requirements, and product availability considerations to support ongoing compliance.
- Collaborate with legal, product, and business stakeholders to address emerging compliance questions and maintain continuity of existing compliance programs.
- 3+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, preferably within fintech, banking, payments, broker-dealer, cryptocurrency, or another regulated financial services environment.
- Strong understanding of compliance program operations, regulatory requirements, and day-to-day compliance processes.
- Demonstrated experience across multiple compliance disciplines, such as sanctions compliance, marketing and communications review, regulatory advisory, or financial product compliance.
- Familiarity with U.S. financial services regulations and compliance considerations associated with regulated financial products.
- Exposure to international regulatory requirements, particularly U.K. financial promotions regulations, is a plus.
- Experience supporting cryptocurrency, digital assets, derivatives, or prediction market products is highly desirable but not required.
- Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to identify and escalate regulatory compliance concerns appropriately.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and collaborate effectively with legal and cross-functional business teams.
- Highly adaptable, with the ability to quickly absorb unfamiliar regulatory concepts, systems, and business processes.
- Availability to support a short-term assignment with a limited onboarding and training period.
