We are looking for an experienced Category Manager to oversee sourcing strategy for maintenance, repair, operations, packaging, and utility-related spend within a scientific instrument manufacturing environment. This long-term contract position follows a hybrid schedule, with the selected candidate expected to work on-site three days each week. The role will focus on strengthening supplier partnerships, improving cost efficiency, and supporting dependable supply across multiple locations through close collaboration with operations, warehouse, and procurement teams.
Responsibilities:
- Design and carry out category plans for MRO supplies, packaging, utilities, related services, and selected capital purchases in alignment with operational priorities.
- Work with internal partners across operations, warehousing, engineering, and procurement to clarify business needs and promote consistent purchasing approaches across sites.
- Lead supplier sourcing activities, including bid events, evaluations, commercial negotiations, and contract development to secure strong pricing, service, and delivery performance.
- Monitor spending patterns, supplier results, and category trends by using reporting, KPI tracking, and data analysis to guide decisions and reduce risk.
- Establish supplier governance practices such as scorecards, performance reviews, and corrective action follow-up to maintain dependable service levels.
- Partner with maintenance and warehouse teams to improve inventory planning, parts availability, and overall support for site operations.
- Negotiate contract terms covering warranty support, service responsiveness, preventive maintenance expectations, and product supply commitments.
- Promote adherence to approved supplier programs, procurement standards, and compliance requirements throughout the organization.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities that increase efficiency, strengthen processes, and deliver sustainable cost savings.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to team members contributing to category execution and operational objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, operations, engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in strategic sourcing or category management with responsibility for indirect spend in MRO, fulfillment, manufacturing, or similar operational environments.
- Minimum 5 years of experience negotiating contracts and managing supplier agreements.
- Strong knowledge of MRO-related categories, supply markets, distribution channels, and supplier management practices.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze spend data, build reporting insights, and use KPI metrics to support sourcing decisions and category planning.
- Proven success working with cross-functional stakeholders and communicating effectively across operations, procurement, warehouse, and leadership teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other tools used for planning, reporting, and performance tracking.
- Experience driving compliance, process improvement, and supplier performance initiatives in a multi-site environment.
