We are looking for a detail-focused Cash Application Specialist to support a manufacturing organization in Greenfield, Indiana. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who is comfortable managing a large volume of payment activity while maintaining accuracy across customer accounts. The person in this role will help keep receivables current by posting payments, resolving account issues, and partnering with internal teams to address exceptions. Success in this position requires strong reconciliation skills, sound judgment, and the ability to stay organized in a fast-moving environment.
Responsibilities:
- Apply incoming customer payments each day across multiple remittance methods, including electronic transfers, lockbox activity, and paper checks.
- Investigate unapplied cash items and match receipts to the correct customer accounts and invoices.
- Review payment exceptions such as deductions, short payments, overpayments, and unidentified receipts, then take action to resolve them accurately.
- Coordinate with customers and cross-functional internal teams to clarify remittance details and settle payment-related questions.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of cash activity, account updates, and supporting documentation.
- Reconcile customer account balances and contribute to month-end close tasks tied to accounts receivable activity.
- Prepare routine reporting on cash receipts, outstanding unapplied items, and aging-related trends for internal review.
- Assist the broader accounts receivable function with account upkeep and collection support when business needs require it.
- Follow established financial controls and company policies to ensure payment processing is handled consistently and correctly.
- At least 2 years of experience in cash application, accounts receivable, or a similar accounting-focused position.
- Background handling high-volume payment posting in a deadline-driven setting is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to reconcile accounts and identify the source of payment discrepancies.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting or enterprise resource planning systems.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and prioritize transactional work effectively.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with customers and internal business partners.
- An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
