We are looking for Legal Counsel to support a dynamic real estate investment and property operations platform in Dallas, Texas. This position offers broad exposure to transactional work, property management issues, dispute resolution, and regulatory matters across a growing portfolio. The attorney will work closely with internal stakeholders to provide practical guidance that protects the business while supporting operational goals.
Responsibilities:
- Advise property management and cross-functional teams on legal issues involving resident complaints, demand correspondence, active disputes, insurance matters, and agency-related questions.
- Support real estate transactions by assisting with community acquisitions, portfolio deals, and legal matters tied to operating entities.
- Administer insurance claims from initial review through resolution, including evaluating coverage issues and coordinating with insurance providers.
- Prepare, revise, and negotiate legal documents such as settlement agreements, response letters, internal advisories, and operational templates.
- Analyze residential lease forms and operating documents while counseling business partners on landlord-tenant compliance, enforcement matters, and related operational concerns.
- Manage responses to regulatory reviews and government inquiries in partnership with compliance and business leadership.
- Handle significant escalations involving pre-litigation conflicts, habitability issues, personal injury allegations, and property damage claims.
- Direct outside counsel, guide litigation strategy, and monitor matters to achieve timely and cost-effective outcomes.
- Develop training materials and practical guidance for property management teams to strengthen legal awareness and reduce operational risk.
- Maintain oversight of the legal workflow for property management matters, including intake, prioritization, tracking, and document standardization.
- Juris Doctor degree with strong academic performance.
- Active admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
- At least 2 years of legal experience in real estate transactions, property management matters, or a related practice area.
- Background in institutional real estate, residential real estate, or property operations is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in an in-house legal role or with a respected law firm serving real estate clients is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee outside counsel and contribute to litigation planning and resolution strategy.
- Sound judgment with the ability to balance legal exposure against business and operational objectives.
- Strong drafting, research, communication, and Microsoft Office or legal technology skills.
