Attorney/Lawyer

Position Overview A Hartford-based law firm is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Litigation Attorney to join its growing practice. This position will focus primarily on insurance defense and general civil litigation matters throughout Connecticut. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of litigation experience and be comfortable managing matters through all stages of the litigation process. The attorney will work closely with the firm's managing attorney and experienced paralegal team while developing greater responsibility for their own caseload. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated attorney who values hands-on litigation experience, collaboration, and the opportunity to handle substantive matters from initial pleadings through resolution or trial.

Responsibilities

• Manage insurance defense and general litigation matters throughout all phases of litigation
• Draft answers, motions, pleadings, briefs, and other litigation documents
• Conduct legal research and prepare written analyses
• Manage and respond to written discovery
• Prepare for, attend, and defend depositions
• Represent clients in motion hearings, pretrial conferences, mediations, and other court proceedings
• Evaluate cases and participate in settlement negotiations
• Prepare matters for jury and bench trials and conduct trials as appropriate
• Maintain regular communication with clients regarding case strategy, developments, and resolution
• Work collaboratively with the managing attorney, paralegals, and other members of the legal team
• Accurately maintain billable time and case records

Qualifications

• 3+ years of litigation experience required
• Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Connecticut
• Connecticut Federal Court admission strongly preferred
• Prior insurance defense and/or general civil litigation experience preferred
• Strong legal research and writing abilities
• Experience utilizing LexisNexis and/or Westlaw
• Prior experience with hourly billing and timekeeping requirements
• Strong case management and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines independently
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong client-facing capabilities
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Highly detail-oriented, accountable, self-motivated, and team-focused

Additional Practice Exposure The firm also maintains a criminal defense practice representing individuals throughout Connecticut. Prior criminal defense experience is a plus but is not required for this position.
